The event was organized under the umbrella of PSIM South Punjab, in collaboration with academic and medical professionals, reflecting UVAS’s commitment to community health and disease prevention.
The program was attended by approximately 75 participants, including faculty members, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and paramedical staff. The diverse audience ensured wide dissemination of knowledge across academic and healthcare communities.
The session emphasized the growing burden of diabetes in South Punjab, highlighting how lack of awareness, sedentary lifestyles, and poor dietary habits contribute to rising disease prevalence. Speakers stressed that early detection, timely diagnosis, and proper disease management can significantly reduce the risk of long-term complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, neuropathy, and vision loss.
Interactive and informative discussions focused on:
Healthy dietary practices, with special emphasis on balanced nutrition and reduced sugar intake
Regular physical activity as a cornerstone of diabetes prevention and control
Medication adherence and the importance of regular follow-up
Lifestyle modification as a cost-effective and sustainable approach to disease management
Participants actively engaged in question-and-answer sessions, demonstrating keen interest in practical guidance for diabetes prevention and self-care. The speakers also highlighted the role of educational institutions like UVAS in spreading health awareness beyond campus boundaries, especially in underserved regions of South Punjab.
The event concluded with a strong message that community-based awareness programs are essential in combating diabetes. By empowering individuals with knowledge and practical tools, such initiatives can play a vital role in reducing disease burden and improving overall public health outcomes.
