1. About these terms
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine (PSIM) (“PSIM”, “we”, “us”) about your use of the PSIM Conference app (“the app”). They apply together with our Privacy Policy and any conference rules, registration conditions and abstract guidelines that PSIM publishes in the app or on psim.org.pk.
2. The app
The app is the official app of PSIM’s Annual International Conference. It shows the scientific program, faculty and speakers, venue information, downloads and announcements, and lets you register for the conference and workshops, submit abstracts, take part in live polls and give feedback. The app is free to download and use and has no in-app purchases.
3. Who can use the app
The app is intended for doctors, healthcare professionals, medical students and others attending or interested in the conference. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account; if you are under 18, you may use the app only with the permission of a parent or guardian.
4. Your account
- You can browse most of the app without an account. Some features (registration, abstracts, polls and feedback) require you to sign in with e-mail, Google or Apple.
- You must give accurate, current information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password secret. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us at once at app@conference.psim.org.pk if you think someone else has used it.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (More → Delete Account). Section 12 of the Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and what PSIM must keep.
5. Conference registration and payments
- A registration made in the app is a request. It is confirmed only when PSIM has checked your details and, where a fee applies, received and verified your payment. You then receive a registration number and QR code.
- Registration categories, fees, workshops and deadlines are those published by PSIM for the current conference and may differ by category (for example PSIM lifetime members, consultants, postgraduate trainees or students).
- Fees are paid outside the app, by bank transfer or in cash, as described in the app. The app does not process card payments. You must enter a correct payment reference and, for bank transfers, upload a genuine deposit slip.
- Cancellations, refunds and transfers follow PSIM’s registration policy for that conference. Registrations and badges are personal and may not be shared.
- PSIM may refuse or cancel a registration that is incomplete, incorrect, unpaid or made in breach of these Terms.
6. Abstracts and content you submit
“Your content” means abstracts, presentations, posters, photos, documents, feedback, poll answers and messages you submit through the app. By submitting your content you confirm that:
- you are an author of the work or are authorised by all authors to submit it, and all listed authors have agreed;
- it is original, accurate and does not infringe anyone’s copyright or other rights;
- any research it describes had the required ethics approval and consent, and it contains no information that could identify a patient without that patient’s written consent;
- it follows the abstract guidelines and deadlines published by PSIM.
You keep ownership of your content. You give PSIM a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, review, edit for format, reproduce and publish it for conference purposes – for example in the scientific program, the abstract book, the app, the PSIM website and conference presentations. PSIM decides independently whether an abstract is accepted and in what format it is presented.
7. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use the app for anything unlawful, false, misleading, defamatory, offensive or harassing;
- impersonate another person, or register or submit content in someone else’s name without permission;
- upload viruses or harmful code, or try to access accounts, data or systems you are not authorised to use;
- disrupt the app or its servers, or copy, scrape or harvest content or other users’ information by automated means;
- manipulate polls or feedback, or send spam or advertising through the app;
- copy, modify, reverse-engineer or resell the app, except where the law expressly allows it.
8. No medical advice
The app provides conference information only. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment and must not be used to make clinical decisions. Scientific content, presentations and abstracts are the responsibility of their speakers and authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of PSIM. Continuing medical education (CME) credit, where offered, is awarded under the rules of PSIM and the accrediting bodies.
9. Program and conference changes
The program, speakers, timings, venue and other conference details may change. We aim to keep the app up to date, but the information in it may sometimes be incomplete or out of date. Please check announcements in the app and at the conference desk. PSIM is not responsible for costs you incur because of such changes.
10. Intellectual property
The app, its design and software, the PSIM name and logo, and the content provided by PSIM belong to PSIM or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use in connection with the conference. All other rights are reserved. Speakers’ presentations and downloads may not be recorded, copied or shared without permission of their authors and PSIM.
11. Third-party services and links
The app uses or links to services run by others – for example Google and Apple sign-in, YouTube live streams, maps, WhatsApp and sponsors’ or the venue’s websites. Their own terms and privacy policies apply, and PSIM is not responsible for their content or availability.
12. Availability of the app
We may update, change, suspend or stop the app or any feature at any time, for example between conferences. We do not guarantee that the app will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. You are responsible for your device and your internet or mobile data costs.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
To the extent permitted by law, the app and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
14. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, PSIM, its office-bearers, organising committee, staff and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits or opportunity, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
15. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close your account, or remove your content, if you break these Terms or if this is needed to protect the app, other users or PSIM. You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. Sections 6, 8, 10 and 13–17 continue to apply after your use ends.
16. App Store and Google Play terms
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These Terms are between you and PSIM only, not with Apple Inc. (“Apple”). PSIM, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Your licence to use the app is limited to use on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the app may also be used by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support services for the app. Questions and support requests go to PSIM (see section 19).
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you (the app is free, so this amount is zero). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses caused by a failure to conform to a warranty are PSIM’s responsibility.
- PSIM, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the app or your possession and use of it, including product-liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to any legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer-protection, privacy or similar legislation.
- If a third party claims that the app or your possession and use of it infringes that third party’s intellectual-property rights, PSIM, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with applicable third-party terms (for example your mobile-data agreement) when using the app.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept these Terms, Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
If you downloaded the app from Google Play, Google Play’s Terms of Service also apply. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan. The courts of Islamabad have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, unless the law of your country gives you the right to bring a claim where you live. Before starting any legal claim, please contact us so that we can try to resolve the matter informally.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms when the app, the conference or the law changes. The new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and important changes will be announced in the app. If you continue to use the app after a change, you accept the updated Terms.
